I am very proud to be a volunteer with such an amazing organization. The staff and fellow volunteers are very giving and empathic individuals. Being a part of this team and helping fellow citizens has been a very rewarding experience for me. I feel fulfilled when I am able to make even a small difference for someone in their darkest hour. I encourage anyone who is caring and looking to make a difference in someone's life to consider joining our team.

I have been with SAVS now, going on my 7th year. I am getting all kinds of experience with SAVS. I go on calls where a victim has been victimized by crime, or they have a crisis in their life, for example; giving emotional support to victims of an accidental or sudden death in their family. Myself, and a partner provide the victims with information for their circumstances. We work with the Greater Sudbury Police, the Ontario Provincial Police, and the Emergency Medical Services, if we are requested. I really enjoy using the skills I’ve been taught, and learning new skills on a call. I like the teamwork. I enjoy helping people, listening to them and offering my support, even if it’s just for a short time. I know I make a difference for the people in our community who are in crisis. It makes me feel good to lend a helping hand or a listening ear. It feels good to help my community in this way.

I have been a volunteer with Victim Services since June of 2015. Working in crisis intervention has given me the opportunity to gain experience and lend a helping hand to those who are in need of assistance and support. Victim Services has helped develop my communication and listening skills as well as my ability to build rapport with a client. These skills are mandatory requirements in order to have successful career as a police officer. Helping others and creating a difference in people's lives is how I want to be remembered.

It’s like no other volunteer work I have experienced before. I take pride in the fact that we are assisting those who are faced with tragic circumstances at any time of the day or night that it occurs and wherever it occurs. We are not limited to an office location restricted to office hours, and that’s what makes it special. This is why I love volunteering with Victim Services, because no one should have to go through a tragedy alone.

We are very proud as volunteers to serve the Sudbury community in assisting the OPP and Greater Sudbury Police Services with families in crisis. It’s very rewarding to be part of the community and to see what we accomplish with team work.

My time as a volunteer with Sudbury & Area Victim Services has been both rewarding and gratifying. I have been fortunate enough to work with numerous people who are the best at what they do. I’ve learned new skills to become a better and high spirited individual. I look forward to making a difference, no matter how small of a contribution it is. I know that at the end of the day, I have made a significant impact on the families I have helped!
